The Annex

THE ANNEX AT A GLANCE

The Annex is one of Toronto’s most colourful areas including a variety of places such as University of Toronto, the Art Centre and Royal Ontario Museum.

Being built during the Belle Époque (Beautiful Era), this unique  neighbourhood combines both Victorian monumentalism and decorative Edwardian styles into a distinct architectural flavour  which you won’t be able to see anywhere else in Toronto. A popular food and shopping destination, this area is well known by Torontonians and newcomers alike as one of the friendliest neighbourhoods in the city. Moreover, with the walk score of 94 and transit score of 97, Annex is the 8th most walkable neighbourhood in Toronto.

Why do we love the Annex?

University of Toronto + Royal Ontario Museum + Bloor Street = Toronto’s heartbeat.

Describe a Perfect Day in the Annex

How do I start my day in the heart of Toronto? The first stop will definitely be at DavidsTea, an outstanding tea shop chain that has literally every sort of tea from all around the world. Sounds like a perfect start of the day! Then, I drift through the Philosopher’s Walk and head to Royal Ontario Museum to enjoy Pompeii: In the Shadow of the Volcano and Eaton Gallery of Rome exhibitions. My favourite cafe, L’Espresso Bar Mercurio, is perfect for lunch – their magical burgers just melt in your mouth. After my lunch, I take a small walk to the University of Toronto  to enjoy the stunning atmosphere of the campus itself get energized by the crowds of students that stick around. During the fall, when the trees are yellow and red and the sky is grey, the university looks like Hogwarts! Then, I will head to the true Canadian store –  Honest Ed’s (you haven’t really been to Toronto if you didn’t go to the Honest Ed’s) for some fun shopping. Finally, I’ll visit the best sushi I’ve ever tried in Toronto – Sushi on Bloor. For just $7-$10 you get 2 different kinds of rolls that teleport you right to the streets of Tokyo. Be ready to wait for 15-25 minutes due to high popularity.

One Thing Someone Looking to Live in the Annex Should Know?

The Annex is a hidden gem in terms of social equality. Students, successful business people, tech geeks, outstanding artists, and retirees live side-by-side in a beautiful, almost suburban atmosphere.
